Engine and Performance

Amount its many trim levels; three are V6 and V8 gasoline powertrains that pair with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Both Ram engines come assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system, though the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engine can also be without electric support. We've driven a couple of models with the latter and appreciated the engine's baritone exhaust note and expeditious acceleration. Every Ram 1500 has an impressive ride thanks to a rear suspension that used standard coil springs or optional air springs, unlike the traditional leaf-spring setup found on domestic rivals. The Ram 1500 can tow up 12,750 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,320 pounds.

Ram's enhanced connectivity includes multi-phone Bluetooth, six user profiles, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and exciting new connected services like Alexa In-vehicle Assistant. The Ram 1500 comes with convenient cubby stowage and cavernous passenger space; the higher trims add upscale materials and luxury finishes. The Ram 1500's crew cab offers a unique split-folding tailgate and five-foot-seven-inch cargo bed.

Safety, Infotainment, and Connectivity Features

Ram truck has had one of the best infotainment systems and connectivity features in the class for a while; that continues on the latest 2022 Ram 1500, with a responsive 8.4-inch or massive optional 12.0-inch touchscreen available on all but the base Ram Tradesman model. The system boasts numerous power points and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. The pickup truck also has a host of driver-assistance technology ranging from automated emergency braking to lane-keeping assist.
